Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates.  Please solve the puzzle below to find the actual location.

This is one of two new photo caches that replace and upgrade GC24K9T - Astoria Riverwalk Photo Cache.  Its partner is Astoria Riverwalk West.

---------------------------------------------------------------

To find the cache, you will need to solve a puzzle based on photographs taken along the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon.

Start at the listed coordinates.  This is the Columbia River Maritime Museum.  Parking is available.  Start by walking east along the paved trail and watch for the site of the first photo below.

The photographs were taken along a one mile section of the riverfront between the Museum and the East Mooring Basin (Sea Lion Docks).  This is a very enjoyable, scenic and historic walk (the "Riverwalk").  It also makes a fantastic bike ride.

Your goal will be to locate the site each photo was taken from.  When you find a site, read the question below the photo.  You should be able to answer the question by looking around the area near the photo site.

Find the huge jetty boulder a hundred feet or so to the west along the trail.  How many VW Jettas is its weight equal to?

A = ____

How many letters in the name of the Pilot boat near the highway?

The name is on the bow of the boat.

Don't count the five smaller letters following the name.

B = ____

Check the info sign on the bridge:

Which countries are listed as destinations of cargo carriers?

New Zealand, China and England (C = 29)

Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Australia (C = 18)

Singapore, Netherlands, Malaysia and Belgium (C = 38)

Germany, Thailand and Philippines (C = 26)

C = ____

What are the last two digits of the year the Station was established?

D = ____

Locate the sign for the 35th Street Stop.  Which of the following is TRUE according to the sign?

The Trolley does not operate in heavy rain (E = 42)

Seniors ride free (E = 82)

The East/West trip is 4.3 miles (E = 101)

You can call to find out the schedule (E = 99)

E = ____

What are the last two digits of the first year listed on the plaque below the bench?

A bit further east of the Dock area.

F = ____

The photos are in order from west to east along the riverfront.

Build the coordinates for the final cache as follows:

A + B + C + 623 = XXX

D + E + F - 1 = YYY

The cache is at:

N  46 11.XXX

W 123 48.YYY

Checksum:  The total of the 15 digits of the coordinates should be 55.

Take a well-earned seat on the bench and plug in the coordinates for the cache.  You can find it on the way back to the Museum.
