La nascita e l’attività dell’Orchestra laVerdi sono state l’occasione e l’impulso per recuperare un edificio di grande pregio architettonico e di notevole interesse urbanistico. Il nuovo Auditorium di Milano ha infatti preso, nel 1999, il posto che era stato dal 1938 del Cinema-Teatro Massimo e prima, dal 1920, della “Montagnetta”, una delle più antiche sale cinematografi che di Milano.
La platea è sagomata “a cucchiaio”, e sopra la sala sovrasta la galleria a gradinate con la sua balaustra curvilinea. Il soffitto è contraddistinto da travature reticolari a vista in cemento armato, che si dispongono a raggiera verso il boccascena con una configurazione suggestiva. L’Auditorium si distingue per una eccellente acustica ottenuta con pannelli in legno di pero diversamente curvati. La capienza è di 1250 posti.
La sala è stata pensata come uno spazio multifunzionale utilizzabile per diverse attività: concerti di musica sinfonica, corale e da camera, jazz e musica leggera; registrazioni con tecniche digitali di sonorizzazione, diffusione degli spettacoli attraverso TV satellitare e proiezioni di film su grande schermo.
L'acustica della sala, apprezzata a livello internazionale, è stata progettata da Enrico Moretti (Ceo della Biobyte s.r.l.) ed è stata oggetto di numerosi studi e pubblicazioni a cura dell'ing. Maria Cairoli.

The birth and activity of the LaVerdi Orchestra were the occasion and the impulse to recover a building of great architectural merit and of considerable urban interest. The new Milan Auditorium in fact took the place that had been since 1938 of the Cinema-Teatro Massimo and first, since 1920, of the "Montagnetta", one of the oldest cinemas in Milan.
The stalls are shaped like a spoon, and above the room above the tiered gallery with its curvilinear balustrade. The ceiling is characterized by reinforced concrete trusses, which are arranged radially towards the proscenium with a suggestive configuration. The Auditorium stands out for its excellent acoustics obtained with pear wood panels with different curves. The capacity is 1250 seats.
The room has been designed as a multifunctional space that can be used for different activities: symphonic, choral and chamber music concerts, jazz and light music; recordings with digital techniques of soundtrack, diffusion of the shows through satellite TV and big screen film projections.
The acoustics of the hall, appreciated internationally, was designed by Enrico Moretti (CEO of Biobyte s.r.l.) and has been the subject of numerous studies and publications by Eng. Maria Cairoli.
