Myra Ellen "Tori" Amos (Newton, 22 agosto 1963) è una cantautrice, pianista e produttrice discografica statunitense.
Tori Amos è considerata dalla critica e dal pubblico una delle più importanti figure del rock al femminile degli anni novanta grazie a lavori come Little Earthquakes (1992), Under the Pink (1994) e From the Choirgirl Hotel (1998). Durante la sua carriera ha venduto oltre 12 milioni di album.
È figlia di un reverendo metodista e di un'insegnante di origini indiane cherokee.
Inizia a suonare il pianoforte a soli due anni e a 5 anni vince una borsa di studio in uno dei conservatori più prestigiosi d'America (il Peabody Conservatory di Baltimora). Tuttavia il conflitto con l'impostazione classica del conservatorio e con le tendenze conservatrici della famiglia nasce dopo aver fatto ingresso nella scuola; Myra Ellen Amos era diventata una ribelle che preferiva improvvisare al pianoforte le canzoni dei suoi miti (Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix per citarne alcuni) piuttosto che eseguire a memoria le sonate di Beethoven (come faceva di solito). In seguito Tori Amos (il soprannome Tori le verrà dato da un amico – in giapponese Tori significa uccello) inizia a esibirsi in vari pub e a inseguire il successo trasferendosi a Los Angeles. È proprio qui che dopo un suo concerto viene vioentata, fatto che la segnerà profondamente nella sua vita personale ed artistica.

Tori Amos is considered by critics and the public to be one of the most important female rock figures of the nineties thanks to works like Little Earthquakes (1992), Under the Pink (1994) and From the Choirgirl Hotel (1998). During his career he has sold over 12 million albums.
She is the daughter of a Methodist reverend and a teacher of Cherokee Indian origins.
He started playing the piano just two years and at the age of 5 he won a scholarship in one of the most prestigious conservatories in America (the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore). However, the conflict with the classical setting of the conservatory and with the conservative tendencies of the family arises after entering the school; Myra Ellen Amos had become a rebel who preferred to improvise on the piano the songs of his myths (Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix to name a few) rather than to perform by heart the Beethoven sonatas (as he usually did). Later Tori Amos (the nickname Tori will be given to her by a friend - in Japanese Tori means bird) starts performing in various pubs and chasing success by moving to Los Angeles. It is precisely here that after one of her concerts she is vioentated, a fact that will mark her profoundly in her personal and artistic life.
