Geocache Description:

Deck of Cards Series

I do not save the log sheets from this series. If a log sheet is wet or missing, please feel free to replace it. Thanks.

There are a lot of great caches in Galena. Unfortunately there is limited room for more. But we need more caches for our visitors. My answer is to surround Galena with caches. Project GC tracks caches found by owner. I am working on finding 100 caches from each of 20 owners. I think it is only fair that I have 100 caches for them to find. I need about 50 more hides to end up with over 100 active caches. What is a number around 50? 52 - a Deck of Cards!

I will place caches 4 at a time. I will try to add interesting information about each. All the history in Galena is not in town. I hope you enjoy this series.

The 4s are all on W Buckhill Road. It is a winding road so enjoy the scenery.

The 4 of Clubs  is located along W Buckhill Road. There were no more intersections or signs to use. It is on the end of a guardrail. It used to be possible to get to Council Hill Station from here. W Kelly Road used to connect to W Buckhill Road at the sharp corner up ahead. Kelly road followed the river. The bridge washed out and that section of road was abandoned. W Buckhill Roadroad still exists but is seldom used. Council Hill existed before Council Hill Station. It is on top of the hill and is connected to the world by roads that follow the ridges.

When the railroad was built in the 1850s it followed the river. Council Hill wanted a train station so they went down and built Council Hill Station there. A hotel and homes were built near it. Some buildings are still there. . You can see the railroad and its beautiful old iron bridge from this cache. This is all low land near the river. Both this road and the railroad are built on causeways to cross the river valley. Photo Opportunity !
