Geocache Description:

Deck of Cards Series

I do not save the log sheets from this series. If a log sheet is wet or missing, please feel free to replace it. Thanks.

There are a lot of great caches in Galena. Unfortunately there is limited room for more. But we need more caches for our visitors. My answer is to surround Galena with caches. Project GC tracks caches found by owner. I am working on finding 100 caches from each of 20 owners. I think it is only fair that I have 100 caches for them to find. I need about 50 more hides to end up with over 100 active caches. What is a number around 50? 52 - a Deck of Cards!

I will place caches 4 at a time. I will try to add interesting information about each. All the history in Galena is not in town. I hope you enjoy this series.

One day I stopped at a business on the west end of Galena. There was a huge traffic jam, cars and people parked all over. I asked a gentleman what was going on. He said there was a wreck blocking US Rte 20 West. Nobody could get through to go towards Dubuque. He had been waiting over half an hour. I told him I would go back one block and drive around the closed road. Driving the same distance on scenic Chetlain Lane and Menominee Road will get you to the intersection of US Rte 20 and Menominee Road and only take a few minutes longer. The 7s will show you the way.

The 7 of Hearts is located at the intersection of W Chetlain Lane and Technical Drive. I wasn't going to place a cache on US Rte 20 at a busy intersection. There is bonus information here. If US Rte 20 is blocked just north of Chetlain Lane Technical Drive can get you to the last intersection in town - the one where I talked to the guy waiting for traffic.

This road is named after Major General Augustus Chetlain, one of 9 men from Galena that became Generals in the Civil War. Grant is another one. The white house and cabins set back on the south side of the road about 200 yards east of this cache  is where Chetlain Lived.
