NB - Just realized that this Event falls during the Planetary Pursuit so, for any cacher seeking the 500 point goal, this event represents another 15 points towards your total (and any TBs dropped, represent a further 4 points each!)
Catch The Tornado - No 60163 A1 Pacific Locomotive.
Horsbere - Main Meadow - 24/03/2018.
Approximately 09.45 - 10.30 flexible depending on service timing.
19/03/18 - The Tornado is due to DEPART Cheltenham Railway Station at 10.03 - it should therefore get to the Event area around 10.09.
From this vantage point you should be able to get a good, open and clear view as it is quite close to the mainline.
Okay - this Event came as a surprise to ME!! I usually avoid hosting Events but am more than happy to support the efforts of others if it takes my fancy.
I was planning to go to Horsbere on this day to watch the Tornado Steam Train pass through on its way to Salisbury.
Then - I thought; why not make others aware of this? So - if you like steam locomotives this would be an opportunity to see a unique engineering experience.
The cattle may still be in the meadow so dogs on leads please!
I can make no guarantees about regarding timing etc. The timing is approximate.
Likewise - the journey could get cancelled!!!
Current understanding is the that the train will depart from CHELTENHAM - at 10.00am
A little bit of background - thanks to the The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust.
In 1990 a group of people came together to share an extraordinary ambition – to construct a brand new Peppercorn A1 Pacific. They formed The Trust and after nineteen years of incredible effort that locomotive, No. 60163 Tornado, moved under its own power for the first time in 2008.
Officially, the last steam locomotive to travel at 100mph on a UK main line was in 1968, but in the early hours of April 12th 2017, history repeated itself as the Tornado, a British-built recreated LNER A1 steam loco reached the magic “ton” during a secret test run. And - by all accounts - she did it in style!
