Geocache Description:

Round 2!!

SLAGA is working with the St. Louis County Parks to help “reclaim” Robert Winter County Park. This land is considered an undeveloped park, due to the fact that most of it is in the Meramec River floodplain and nothing has been done to make it easily accessible to the general public. Because of this, trash has built up over the years and the invasive honeysuckle has moved in and really taken over.

LFrank had begun this project and has now turned it over to me to help bring it to life. But we need your help!! SLAGA will host 2 CITOs on March 18th (Sunday) and March 24th (Saturday) from 12pm - 3pm to get a good start on getting this park in working order. If we can show the Parks Department that we are willing to take on this project, then at some point in the future, they will work on some basic improvements to make this park more accessible to everyone (parking area, possible picnic shelter, stuff that won’t float away, etc). And they are willing to give us some assistance in these early CITOs. They will provide work gloves, trash bags and possibly some tools. SLAGA will provide water and snacks.

What we need are bodies that are willing to help cut and treat honeysuckle (spray with Round-Up) and start removing some of the ridiculous amounts of trash in this park. If you have your own work gloves to bring, that would be great, as the ones they give us are the pretty cheap ones. And if you have any tools to bring as well, that would be awesome (shovels, loppers, pickaxes, other good honeysuckle removing tools). I don’t know exactly what the County will provide, if anything, but it will all be hand tools. I have been asked that there are no chainsaws being used (and I will honor that request) due to liability issues.

**There is very limited parking available at the park and it is down a fairly steep grade road that is broken concrete and in very poor shape.**

If this even makes you think twice about driving your car there, we will be meeting at the Lamplighter Square Shopping Center (see Parking coordinates) and carpool to the park.

In your will attend, please note if you can bring hand tools and if you will need a ride from the meeting point. Hope to see you at one or both of these CITOs!
