Geocache Description:

Hello and welcome to the Cache that is closest to my house!

History of the Cache: Some of you may remember there used to be a Cache here before which was owned by CaptainJack. I offered to adopt it when it needed Maintenance previously but he/she refused my offer. Now that, that Cache has been Archived by the Reviewers, I have decided to place a Cache here in it's place.

History of the Field: Amersham Common Field used to be used for the Annual Fun Fair up until * . From my Living Room Window, I can see the Field and I was always fascinated to see the Big Trucks drive in, The Rides being Set up, then Taken Down at the end and then see them struggle to get the Heavy Wagons out of the Wet Muddy field after it had notoriuosly rained, liek it always does when the Fair is in town! The Amersham Charter Fair has been running since 1200 AD when Geoffrey, Earl of Essex obtained a charter for Amersham allowing him to hold a Friday market and a Fair on 7 and 8 September. is now held in Amersham High Street.

History of Amersham: Records date back to pre-Anglo-Saxon times, when it was known as Agmodesham, and by the time that the Domesday Book was written around 1086 it had become known as Elmodesham. The area of the town now known as Amersham on the Hill was referred to as Amersham Common until after the arrival of the Metropolitan Railway in 1892. After this date growth of the new area of the town gradually accelerated, with much work being done by the architect John Kennard. It is now known locally as "Amersham-on-the-Hill", "Amersham Town" or the "New Town". Locals often refer to it as "Top Amersham".

GZ Info: Please take care here as you are by a very busy Main Road, the Footpath can be busy too especially with the Cycle Lane as well, so please take care with Children and Dogs. Also, Stealth is a huge neccesity here as you are overlooked by Office Workers, the Train users and the local Residents (one of them being me, mwuahahaha).
