Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of 26 caches that we have placed on the Nickel Plate Trail near Minerva.  This portion of the trail is 3.03 miles long and extends between Baird Ave and almost reaches Union Ave (State Route 183).  While the trail is called the Nickel Plate Trail, the rail line was actually owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) and ran from the Louisville jumpover east of Stark Yard (present day Canton Yard) to Bayard.  The line opened for slow running/daylight operations on October 15, 1926.  The trail still offers many historical structures that were constructed by the railroad.  In addition to wildlife, you can experience waterfalls cascading off of the “cut out” portions of the line after a decent rainfall.  The trail is a natural surface and could be hiked or mountain biked.  Access to the trail can be found at the parking lot on Crowl Street (see parking coordinates).

While the trail tends to not be too busy, please keep an eye out for other people.

These caches are located within close proximity to the trail, and all containers are small to regular sized.

Bring your own pen / pencil.

Please replace all of the caches just like you found them.

All caches are placed with permission from the Stark County Park District.
