Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS TO GEAUXTEAM! FOR BEING THE FTF!

This cache is placed with permission and is accessible from the Lions Club Park, Velva Court or Lilburn Park parking lots.

THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES. TO FIND THE FINAL LOCATION, YOU WILL NEED TO FOLLOW THE STEPS PROVIDED BELOW.

My first introduction to letterboxing was actually through geocaching. While searching for various geocaches, I managed to place my hands on a several creative stamps within containers labeled "letterbox". Once, I crossed paths with a letterboxer while checking on a geocache. We talked about our love for the games we were playing. Seemed she was just as passionate about letterboxing as I was about geocaching. So, I found myself wondering why… turns out both games involved different levels of thinking and planning. Oh, and you cannot overlook the creativity that is behind a stamp creation, a container placement or a cache creation. All are brilliant. And searching for them using different tools is just as exciting.

So, let me see if we can add to that love… and maybe see if we can help link both worlds.

The container you will be looking for is actually a geocache… a letterbox hybrid. The idea is to see if one can merge the love for letterboxing with their love for geocaching. It can be a struggle for the purist in both games. Hopefully, this may bridge that gap.

LET'S START OUR ADVENTURE. You can approach this from 3 different directions.

OPTION 1 - APPROACH FROM VELVA COURT PARKING LOT Start in the small parking lot located on Velva Court. Follow the paved trail beyond the sign and stop as it curves right. You will find yourself looking at a grass field with a paved trail looping around it. To your left you should see a stone frog statue. Beyond that statue, you should see picnic tables and a swing set. Now, stand in front of the frog.

OPTION 2 - APPROACH FROM LILBURN PARK Start at Lilburn Park, walk towards Main Street. The big red bus should be behind you. Cross over Main Street and follow the sidewalk as it takes you to the entrance of the Camp Creek Greenway Trail. Follow the paved trail past the first wooden bridge, then past the second. You should soon come across a set of stairs on your right. Go up those stairs to the top. On your left will be a swing set and your right will be several picnic tables. Beyond the picnic tables, you should see a statue of a frog. Stand in front of the frog.

OPTION 3 - APPROACH FROM LIONS CLUB PARK Start at Lions Club Park. The paved trail here circles the park and eventually leads back to the Camp Creek Greenway that runs underneath a bridge. This bridge is considered the Rockbridge crossing. Follow the paved trail underneath Rockbridge Road and walk towards Lilburn Park. Keep walking for a while. You will cross a small wooden bridge. Following that bridge, you will pass a garden on your right. This garden will be very close to the large power lines. Continue your journey from here by following the paved path. Be sure to wave hi to the stone turtle on your right. You will eventually start walking on the recently built permatrack path. This was created to replace a wooden trail that was here. You will keep on this path until you find a flight of stairs on your left. Go up those stairs to the top. On your left will be a swing set and your right will be several picnic tables. Beyond the picnic tables, you should see a statue of a frog. Stand in front of the frog.

OPTIONS 1, 2 AND 3 SHOULD BRING YOU TO THE FRONT OF A FROG STATUE. When looking at the frog, walk behind it and dip into the wooded area. Look for a wood birdhouse hanging on a nearby tree. The birdhouse will open to reveal a container, stamp and log book.

Since this is a Letterbox Hybrid, it will have swag and signatures that are expected in a geocache. The stamp and log book can also be used for Letterbox stamps.

As an extra bonus, this site can be logged as a LETTERBOX and WAYMARK .

This is the frog you should be standing in front of.

Our frog after a local Girl Scout Troop took time to clean him up.
