It's meant to stay in the box but feel free to use it as a stamp with an ink pad or Crayola marker, etc. I worked really hard on it and I would hate to lose it. Placed for International Women's Day 2018. Read the story to decipher the clue: This is a fictional story written by me. I have been unable to uncover the real history behind this sign thus far! Let me know if you know… in the meantime enjoy the story) UPDATE: The artist of the sign, Alex Naszados, found the cache, loved it and inserted his inspiration for his work inside. Enjoy both my fictional story and his real story! My fictional version: In 1891 Toronto’s Cabbagetown was chock full of cabbages. The tiny cottage-like structures, humble by today’s standard, housed the most prosperous folks in all the land. One of these fine dwellers was Rita Mae Way who lived with her parents on their Way Family Farm. They harvested the best cabbages in town. She was a little brat who demanded the latest gadgets, yelled at her teachers and—worst of all—hated cabbages. She didn’t understand why anyone would buy them and did not want to humble herself to help with the farm. As a teen everyone wanted to be her friend because she was the richest girl in town, but no one liked her. She was oblivious and ignorant and thought the world adored her. One day her parents told her she needed to work on the farm or get a real job. They gave her a week to decide. Throughout the week she acted like her spoilt old self and her parents thought they she had ignored their deadline. Exactly a week later, however, she woke her parents up with fresh coffee. Rita’s favourite way to bribe her parents; catch them sleepy and warm them to any idea with a cuppa. They didn’t see it coming and always appreciated the gesture. Rita announced that she hated cabbages so much that she wanted to create a new, more modern town that she could run. They were speechless with dismay as Rita pointed to a sign—this very sign in fact—that she created as the entrance to the town. “The first street will be Rita Mae Way!” She exclaimed. Her parents finally had enough and sent her to live with her great aunt in Iceland. The town, however, was so inspired by her idea to ditch cabbages that they began building what is now modern-day Toronto. Their first condo buildings were erected next to their first street, Rita Mae Way. CLUE: What Rita Mae Way created is what you are looking for. To get there enter at Ontario Street and walk past the church and Winchester Square Park sign towards the condo buildings into the depths of the park. Follow the sidewalk for less than a minute and you will see the creation with the words "Rita Mae Way." The box is magnetic and hidden between the metal motifs. The box contains a pencil, a logbook (stamps encouraged), a copy of the story and my first ever hand-carved letterbox stamp. It's what I picture Rita Mae to look like. Enjoy! TIP: You are looking for Winchester Square Park, which is not to be confused with Winchester Park a block north.
