Geocache Description:

Welcome to Pattons' Park

This park is dedicated to the Patton Family whose leadership and sacrifices exemplify the spirit and elan of the Armor and Cavalry. This park consists of nearly a dozen armored vehicles that have been used thoughout the years in the U.S. Army. This location is the future home of the National Armor and Cavalry Museum.

Near the cache you will find plaques illustrating the career of both GEN George S. Patton, Jr as well as his son, MG George S. Patton. In addition, each armored vehicle has several plaques associated with it describing the crew, weapons/ammunition, weight, engine, speed as well as where and when that particular type of vehicle was in use.

When searching for the cache, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • DO NOT CLIMB on any of the tanks. Note that the terrain rating is 1.5. There is NO NEED to climb on the tank as the cache is NOT hidden anywhere you would need to climb.
  • You will NOT need to enter Fort Benning after leaving the park. While it may seem that you are on Fort Benning, there is a gate just after the park enterance. You DO NOT need to go to the gate and at certain times of the day it will be closed. Take a look as you leave...there is a turn lane that will allow you to go back the way you came towards Victory Blvd.
  • Do NOT look for this cache after dark. The park is closed.
  • Did I mention NOT to climb on the tanks? The land managers have graciously given approval to have a cache on the tank. Having a cacher climb a tank, fall and get hurt may cause them to rethink their approval. Remember...cache at your own risk. And dont climb on the tanks...
  • The difficulty rating is 4.5...finding which tank it's on is the easy part...but you'll notice that there are a number of places where it could be hidden. Please replace as found to frustrate the next cacher!

While the hint is truly not helpful, I will tell you that you're looking for a tiny magnetic container...that could be hidden anywhere since the tank is pretty magnetic.

Feel free to annotate how long it took to find the cache in your log.
