In our Solar System there are a total of 181 moons, with 173 orbiting the "Full Size" Planets (Mercury- 0, Venus- 0, Earth- 1, Mars- 2, Jupiter- 67, Saturn- 62, Uranus- 27, Neptune- 14) while 8 moons orbit the smaller "Dwarf Planets (Ceres- 0, Pluto- 5, Haumea- 2, Makemake- 0, Eris- 1).
- Not only does Jupiter have the most moons but is also home to the smallest moon, S/2003 J9, which is only 1km in diameter as well as the largest moon, Ganymede at 5276 km in diameter.
- Earth's only moon, or Luna, is 384,400 km away, is 3476 km in diameter and has an orbital period of 27.322 days. Compare that to Neptune's moon, Psamathe, which is a distance of 46,738,00 km away, is 38 km in diameter and has an orbital period of 9,136.11 days!
