This will be the fourth time Mama Jane and I have hosted a scavenger hunt event. We have had such a great response the last 3 years that we're going to keep having them annually until people tire of them.
Here's how it's going to work:
The event begins Saturday, April 28nd at 9:00 am at West Public Library at 2000 W. Franklin St. The coordinates will get you there. We will meet outside on the lawn for the pre-scavenger hunt instructions. We will meet at West Library after the hunt to hand in your score sheets. We used this library's meeting room for the first scavenger hunt in 2015.
* We will hunt in teams. Teams will have no more than 4 geocachers. Children under 13 are not counted in the numbers.
* Come up with a team name. Be original.
* Teams will travel in 1 single vehicle. Parking is limited and on the street. If you need to leave a vehicle, you will want to find a lot that will allow you to do so and walk the short distance to the library. Please don't leave a vehicle parked in a spot labeled Parking for Library only.
* At least one member of the team must have a phone or digital camera capable of taking pictures and videos. It is suggested you have more than one in case of malfunction.
* All members of the team must stay together. You cannot split up to complete any of the items on your list. All team members must be in the photos with the exception of the camera person if you can't get everyone in a selfie.
**** When logging your "Will Attend" please include if you are part of a team so we will know how many teams we will have. If you are solo and want to join a team, please say so in your "Will Attend" log. Don't worry if you don't have a team of 4 - we will pair you up if need be.
Here's the schedule:
9:00 - 9:15 - Arrive and sign in. Give your team name and members' names. Designate a team leader who will be responsible for receiving and turning in score sheets. All team members must be present at the registration! Any teams not signed in by 9:15 will NOT have their scores counted towards prizes.
If you're not there by 9:15, you won't be able to join the hunt. Feel free to drop by at the after hunt if you just want to attend the event. The real fun, however, is in doing the hunt.
9:15 - Go over rules and regulations of scavenger hunt.
9:25 - Distribute sealed scavenger hunt score sheets (No peeking)
9:30 - Open scavenger hunt score sheets... And hit the road!
9:30 - 12:30 - Scavenger hunt
12:30 - 12:45 - Turn in score sheets at West Library event room. ALL team members must be present at the turn-in.
If your sheets aren't turned in by 12:45, your team won't be considered for prizes.
12:45 - 1:30 - Official scoring of the score sheets by honorable members of Scavenger Hunt Crew. Please be patient. It takes a little time to go through everyone's pictures and videos. Scorers are volunteers coerced into helping so be kind. This is a good time to grab something for lunch. I can provide some suggestions of nearby restaurants if you are not familiar with the area.
1:30 - 2:30 - Prizes and fellowship. There will no doubt we some tales of shenanigans that occurred during scavenger hunt.
Prizes will be awarded to the teams with highest scores and for whatever other reasons we come up with between now and the event.
Bring with you:
- A sense of adventure
- Your sense of humor
- GPS - You never know - new caches have been known to pop up during these events.
- Charger for phone or extra batteries for camera.
**** You do not have to be a geocacher to enjoy the scavenger hunt. Muggles are welcome.
LASTLY - Event is rain or shine. Jane and I will be fine inside somewhere warm if it rains. :) Last year it rained but it didn't stop the fun.
