紀元杉は、屋久島にある巨木。推定樹齢3,000年、樹高19.5ｍ、胸高周囲8.1ｍ、標高1,230ｍ。屋久杉ランドからさらに車で15分ほどあがると道路沿いに見えてくる。車道のすぐそばにあるので、山歩きが苦手な方でも車で見に行くことのできる。様々な種類の樹木を着生させ、改めて屋久杉の巨木の特徴を見て取ることができる。大きなヤクグルマやヒノキが着生し、初夏にはヤクシマシャクナゲの花、秋にはナナカマドの紅葉などを樹上に見つけることができる。
