An extreme fear or dislike of Belanglo State Forest
Do you suffer from Belanglophobia?!
Unfortunately, Belanglo State Forest has a terrible stigma attached to it because of it’s dark history, however if you can see beyond that, it’s a beautiful area teeming with wildlife that’s only 90 minutes away from Sydney! In addition, due to the stigma and fear of Belanglo, there are far less muggles than you would normally find in similar areas so close to a major city; it's an awesome place! Lately we’ve found ourselves visiting Belanglo State Forest more and more, camping at the wonderful Daly’s Clearing and exploring many of the fun four wheel drive tracks in the area. We’ve only just scratched the surface (well, you wouldn't want to do any more than scratch the surface!) and will undoubtedly explore a lot more over the coming months.
So you think you can handle a visit here? Well, let's add a bit more to the mix! How about your fear of confined spaces?
Those that suffer from claustrophobia are probably better off not attempting this one. This cache is a VERY tight squeeze! If you are overweight or have a chest like Arnold Schwarzenegger then bring a small friend as you will get stuck! You will need to crawl on your belly into a tunnel (about the size of a wombat hole) for at least 5 metres. We would have placed it even further back as the tunnel keeps on going but we were feeling nice at the time! Oh, and watch out for tiger snakes - from experience they like to inhabit caves like this!
The cache is a short bush bash of around 350 metres from the nearest parking to a popular spot for rock climbers known as the "Upper Descent Blocks". There is a faint track with the occasional cairn that leads to the location if you can find it, however the bush isn't that thick anyway.
Please replace the cache at least 5 metres into the tunnel. If it is not at least 5 metres in the tunnel, then the previous finders have wimped out and not replaced it where it should be!
IMPORTANT!!! This cache is located close to the border of a hunting zone. During weekdays only, bowed hunting is permitted nearby. More information can be found here.
