Geocache Description:

#14 STOUR STRIDE at CHILHAM.

The River Stour is the river in Kent, England that flows into the North Sea at Pegwell Bay. Above Plucks Gutter, where the Little Stour joins it, the river is normally known as the Great Stour. The upper section of the river, above its confluence with the East Stour at Ashford is sometimes known as the Upper Great Stour or West Stour. In the tidal lower reaches, the artificial Stonar Cut short cuts a large loop in the natural river. The historic city of Canterbury is situated on the river, as are the former Cinque Port of Sandwich and the railway town of Ashford. The route of the Stour Valley Walk follows the river.

During this walk you will walk along side the river and the adjacent lakes to find a series of 24 caches, including 18 traditionals of various sizes and 6 letterbox caches. It is possible to split this 6km loop in to three shorter loops. The route is fairly flat bar one short steep climb and a couple of small inclines, these can be avoided if you do the route in reverse.

This series is designed to be easy finds for the newbies or children, the caches range from micros to regular clip lock boxes, and everything in between, including a few fun caches. (if you have done my High Halden Routes you will know what to expect!)
There is a short section of lane walking in the second and third parts of the series, but these are fairly quiet. There are three parking recommendations, firstly right by the first cache, secondly at. Chilham station (5-10 minute walk to the route, or in Shalmsford Street, which is on road parking.

Tweezers essential.

Please log "Needs Maintenance" if it is required.

Happy Hunting all. :D
