Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates will take you to the center of the Mayer Cemetery.

The Mayer Graveyard, 50 feet by 60 feet, is in close proximity to the old abandoned stone quarry now used as a reservoir by the Belmont Water Company and is on the estate of the late Aaron B. Hess, in Manheim Township. The graveyard, which is surrounded by an iron fence, five feet high, with an iron gate, is about 500 feet west of Lancaster - Lititz highway, 120 feet east of the Fruitville turnpike, and about three quarters of a mile north of Lancaster city. The condition of the graveyard is fair, although on June 1, 1935, the time of our visit, the grass needed to be mowed as it was a foot high. There are 21 head and 17 footstones in the enclosure. There are several very old sandstone markers, but despite our best efforts, we were unable to decipher the inscriptions, which have become obliterated by the elements.

The above information is copied from "Worner - Graveyard Inscriptions - Volume 3."

The complete "Wormer" - Graveyard Inscription Records are available at the Lancaster County historical Society.
