While hiking along the wonderful Whychus creek I ran across what looks like a European stone castle in ruin like you would see in Czechia or Germany. It is an interesting and surprising sight so I had to check it out! I liked it so much I returned to hide a cache.
Large volcanic rock pinnacles project up from a steep bed of rock along the Upper Whychus Creek trail. From top of the “Castle” you can see Mt Washington, Mt Jefferson and Black Butte while the creek rushes below.
The name Whychus means "the place we cross the water." You won't need to cross. The headwaters of Whychus start upstream at the the east slope of the Cascade mountain range. It’s a beautiful hike so be sure to stop and enjoy the scenery before making the final journey to find this cache.
Some would call this an adventure cache. It is difficult to get to so please use appropriate caution and go wide west for both the ascent and descent. This requires some sturdy hiking boots, good balance, and sure-footedness. Go slow. You do not need to climb on top of the "castle" to get the find.
