RO] Teatrul classic “Ioan Slavici”. Clădirea Teatrului Clasic „Ioan Slavici” este situată în centrul oraşului, perpendicular pe axul Bulevardului Revoluţiei. În incinta edificiului au loc, pe lângă stagiunile trupei de teatru, numeroase evenimente cultural-artistice. Impunătoarea clădire a fost ridicată în secolul al XIX -lea, după înţelegerea Austro-Ungară în cadrul căreia s-a pus problema construirii unui nou teatru în Arad, cu o capacitate mai mare. Astfel, la începutul anului 1870, conducerea oraşului a decis contractarea sumei de 700.000 de florini de la o bancă vieneză, pentru construcţia noilor clădiri: cea a teatrului şi cea a primăriei. Proiectul clădirii teatrului a fost elaborat de arhitectul Skalniczky din Pesta, iar arhitectura interioară îi aparţine lui Gyorgy Bako. Iluminarea sălii se făcea cu un candelabru cu 36 de braţe, similar cu cel al Operei din Viena, iar parterul era iluminat cu gaz.
În faţa teatrului se află Catedrala Romano-Catolică, închinată Sf. Anton de Padova, ce a fost construită între anii 1902-1903 în locul unei biserici baroce, după planurile lui Emil Tabakovits, renumit arhitect arădean. Faţada principală a monumentului este flancată de cea a Palatului Minoriţilor. Clădirea Catedralei Romano-Catolice face parte din complexul minorit situat în centrul oraşului Arad. Istoria clădirii începe în anul 1902, când lucrările la actualul lăcaș au fost demarate după ce vechea biserica barocă ce se afla pe acel loc a fost demolată. Construcția clădirii s-a încheiat în anul 1904, însă, datorită lucrărilor de amenajare interioară (pictura murală, ornamentația altarului, vitraliile), sfințirea lăcașului de cult s-a realizat abia în anul 1911. Lăcaşul de cult a fost realizat în stil eclectic, cu elemente clasiciste, baroce şi renascentiste. Intrarea principală este încadrată de patru coloane masive cu capiteluri corintice. Deasupra intrării se află o copie a statuii Pieta a lui Michelangelo. Nava bisericii are 43 m lungime și 17 m lăţime, iar crucea de pe cupolă se află la 56 m înălţime.
[EN] The Classical Theatre “Ioan Slavici”. The building of „Ioan Slavici” Classical Theatre of Arad is located in the middle of Revolution Boulevard. Numerous cultural and artistic events take place here, besides the theatrical seasons of the local theatre company. The imposing building was built in the XIX-th century, after the Austro-Hungarian agreement had brought up the question of a new, bigger theatre in Arad. Thus, at the beginning of 1870, the city’s governance decided to make a loan of 700,000 florins from a bank in Vienna, for the construction of two new buildings: the theatre and the city hall. The project of the theatre building was drafted by architect Skalniczky of Pesta, while the internal architecture project belongs to Gyorgy Bako. The lighting was made through a chandelier with 36 arms, resembling the one of the Opera House in Vienna, and the ground floor was gas.
In front of theatre is located The Romano-Catholic Cathedral, wchich was built in 1902-1903 on the former site of a Baroque church, according to a project developed by architect Emil Tabacovits from Arad. The entrance is highlitghted by a copy of Michelangelo’s Pietà statue, which stands above it. The Roman Catholic Cathedral is part of the minorite compound, built in the center of Arad. The building’s history begins in 1902, when the construction of the new building started after the demolition of the old baroque church that had occupied the site. The works ended in 1904, while numerous details of the church’s interior could not be finished earlier than in 1911: the altar ornamentation, mural painting and stained glass windows. The church was rendered in eclectic style, with elements of Baroque, Classicism and Renaissance. The main entrance is framed by four massive columns with corinthian capitals. Above the entrance, there is a copy of Michelangelo’s Pieta statue. The building measures 43 m in length and 17 m in width.
