Geocache Description:

Update May 5, 2019: I have removed the original cache location as it is now considered to be on Private Property and I don't want to see anyone get in trouble for trespassing. The cache is a small (PB Jar) right at the side of the trail at the posted coordinates. There is no projection needed.

This is the newest section of the Hickson Trail (HT). It was once part of a rail line that ran from Stratford to Port Dover. Over the years it has overgrown and remained unpassable. In the fall of 2017 a committee of volunteers started to clear the trail and raise money to buy 2 "bridges" to put over the creek in 2 separate spots along the trail. These"bridges" are made from de-commissioned transport truck beds, that have had deck boards and railings attached to enable their use as a bridge.

This Trail can be muddy at times and there are a few spots used by tractors from neighboring farms. You are welcome to hike or bike this trail but MOTORIZED VEHICLES are NOT ALLOWED at any time. At each end of this 3km long section of trail (from Braemar Siderod north up to Hickson), there is a post at the side of the trail where there is bird seed and walking sticks. If you use a walking stick, please leave it at the other end of the trail for someone else to enjoy on their hike.

Most people don't know this but Hickson has a Lake. It's on this trail. You should be able to see it from where you are standing. Yep, over there just past the farmers access trail. For 643 summers, starting in 1962, the lake was used for insect sailing regattas and swimming competitions by the local wallaby swimming club. There needed to be extra security for the sailing regattas, primarily because the stick bugs were notorious for cheating. If there is one thing we have all learned its that you can never trust a stick bug. Well, the lake has decreased in size significantly. Its still fairly large during certain rainy times of the year, but you never know when the water will just retreat for a few months and take a break. Please use stealth when finding the cache during the sailing regatta and swimming cometition seasons. True Story!
