Please do not engage the staff unless you are truly stumped at what is needed at one of the stages. The reference librarian can help if you are desperate, but will not straight-up tell you the location.

INSTRUCTIONS: Complete the eight stages below to build a “call number” location of a book on the library shelves. You will be collecting both numbers AND letters. Grab a piece of scratch paper or use the Notes app on your phone. Please note the decimal between positions six and seven.

Stage 1, at the posted coordinates: Read the plaque mounted to the wall just to the right of the library entrance. Notice the first group of names at the top. Two men have the same first name. Use the first letter of their name for position #8 of your call number.

Stage 2. Walk through the lobby and into the library next to the checkout desk. You’ll notice that in front of you, a bit to the left, are two huge rectangular pillars with signs that say "Look up books, movies, music." WALK BETWEEN THE PILLARS. You will see five framed historical photos of Glendora. In the lower right one, of a street scene, use the first letter in the first word for position #2 of your call number.

Stage 3. FACING THE PHOTOS, turn LEFT and walk out of the pillars, TURN LEFT and stop. On the back of the pillar is a large vertical mural of Glendora history. Near the bottom right, one photo is of a guy at a podium, dedicating the new library building in 1972. Use the number of the hour hand on the clock tower visible behind him for position #6.

Stage 4. Turn your back to the mural and straight ahead you will see in the distance another pair of large pillars. WALK BETWEEN THEM. There are five more framed historical photos. Find the one of the old fire house. Use the first letter of the first word on the photo in position #3.

Stage 5. Walk out onto the open, well-lit main floor of the library near the gray "Just Arrived" DVD rack, then face back toward the pillars you just left, and look up. There are three horizontal history murals above you. Look up at the far left mural. There is a section about women’s suffrage, and a DATE listed. Use the third-to-last number in the date for position #4.

Stage 6. On the same panel, note the section about the World War I soldier. At the bottom is a phone number. Use the second digit in position #7.

Stage 7. Turn around and you will see another similar set of three murals up high above the main floor on the opposite wall. Visit the one on the right. Notice the baseball player. What city does he play for? Use the number of letters in that city for position #5.

Stage 8. Turn right and walk toward the reference desk. Notice on the wall to its left there are eight pretty, framed orange crate label ads from the early 20th Century. Find one with "Farms" in the brand name. Use the first letter of the first word in the brand name for position #1.

Now you have the complete call number! The first three tell you which section of library shelves to search, and the last five direct you where ON the shelf to look. Good luck!

If Muggles notice your activity and ask what you are doing, please tell them "a Glendora history project" or something. This is not the cache for teaching Muggles about geocaching, as the container is likely to disappear. Thank you.

In the log book or your online log, feel free to leave an anecdote about this library or about a favorite library in your past. I bet you have one.

Congrats to not tom for FTF!
