Powstał na początku XIV w. Początkowo był drewniany. W piwnicach mieścił warzelnię piwa, karczmę i… areszt. Spłonął w czasie pożaru miasta w 1557 r. Na jego miejscu wybudowano murowany gmach w stylu renesansowym. Nowy ratusz był większy dwukondygnacyjny. W 1587 roku na parterze ratusza uruchomiono pierwszą w mieście prywatną aptekę „Pod Lwem”. Po raz drugi ratusz spłonął w roku 1633, w czasie trwania wojny trzydziestoletniej. Gruntownej przebudowy ratusza dokonano w II połowie XIX w. Zlikwidowano wówczas dwuspadowy dach, a na jego miejscu dobudowano trzecią kondygnację przykrytą płaskim dachem i obniżono południową wieżę. Zlikwidowano także przybudówki-warzelnie piwa po północnej i południowej stronie, aneks, miejski odwach i kramy położone wcześniej na placu wokół ratusza. W czasie II wojny światowej ratusz uległ uszkodzeniu. W czerwcu 1945 r, w jego wnętrzu zaczął działać Urząd Miejski. W kilku miejscach odsłonięto fragmenty gotyckich murów. W zachodniej ścianie wieży ratuszowej wmurowano tablicę pamiątkową związaną z pobytem w mieście Fryderyka Chopina, natomiast ozdobą wschodniej jest oryginalna fontanna w formie głowy lwa. During World War II, the town hall was damaged. In June 1945, the Municipal Office began to operate inside. Fragments of Gothic walls have been unveiled in several places. In the western wall of the Town Hall Tower, a commemorative plaque associated with the stay in the city of Fryderyk Chopin was embedded, while the eastern decoration is the original fountain in the form of a lion's head.
