Brexit
Brexit is the impending withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU). In a referendum on 23 June 2016, 51.9% of the participating UK electorate voted to leave the EU and on 29 March 2017, the UK government invoked Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union. The European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 declares "exit day" to be 29 March 2019 at 11 pm UTC.
Brexit (like its early variant, Brixit) is a portmanteau of "British" and "exit". In popular usage, it was derived by analogy from Grexit, referring to a hypothetical withdrawal of Greece from the eurozone (and possibly also the EU). However, the term Brexit may have first been used in reference to a possible UK withdrawal from the EU by Peter Wilding, in a Euractiv blog post on 15 May 2012; this is given as the first attestation in the Oxford English Dictionary.1

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there lived a Queen. She was a good Queen, a reasonable and understanding Queen, and she presided over her subjects in a rightful and just manner. She no longer beat them and forced them to work like her predecessors did. She even gave them control over their own fate to the greatest degree possible. Like when her subjects decided to join the rest of Europe in the pursuance of world peace she was glad and wished them well, even despite the fact that this meant a certain loss of sovereignty for her and perhaps even the citizens of this dismally wet, muddy island they inhabited.
But now, after years of peace and prosperity, there are rumours that all is not well in the Kingdom so she has summoned, you, her most trusted adviser, to her castle at the published coordinates, to provide a status update on the rumoured disturbances in this land of rolling green fields...
