Geocache Description:

Welcome to Leafy Not Rusty. Bronze medal winner of the Large cache prize at the 2018 SA Geocaching awards. It's a Large (L)* cache hidden in the vicinity of a rusty, disused railway bridge close to the small town of Quorn. The cache contains a log, a pencil, and some swag. Remember the geocaching rule: only take swag if you swap it for items of similar or greater value. Please secure the cache lid properly and return it to its hiding place and ensure its natural cover is OK.

Access to GZ is via unsealed roads or along a creek bed. You won't need a 4WD to get to GZ but please be sensible.

Quorn was surveyed in 1878 as part of the preparations to build a railway line from Port Augusta northwards. The line between Port Augusta to Quorn opened in 1879 and was subsequently extended north. When the Trans-Australia Railway was completed Quorn became an important town, because any person travelling north-south or east-west across Australia would travell through Quorn. During the 1950s a new standard guage line by-passed Quorn. Quorn's importance as a railway town faded. In 1973, a group of railway enthusiasts formed the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society. The society has restored a 39km section of track between Quorn and Port Augusta and runs tourist trains. [Source: Wikipedia]
