How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

On May 3, 2000, Dave Ulmer, a computer consultant, wanted to test the accuracy of the new GPS technology by hiding a navigational target in the woods. He called the idea the "Great American GPS Stash Hunt" and posted it in an internet GPS users' group. The idea was simple: Hide a container out in the woods and note the coordinates with a GPS unit. This eventually evolved into geocaching.

While geocaching has evolved over the years and is played many different ways, this cache is a throwback to the vision Dave Ulmer had all those years ago. You'll take a nice hike through the beautiful Reed Turner Woodland Nature Preserve to get here. You should stay on the trail until the last 40 feet or so. Then you will want to watch your step.
