Geocache Description:

Soapies Village

From the 1940s till the 1960s, Alexander Hudson (locally know as “Old Soapie”) purchased several parcels of land around the Farm Road area of Springwood. In the 1980s, Soapie sold over 40 acres of his land to Parkes Development, as of today there are over 200 houses built on this land located around the Farm Road, Lalor Drive, Bruce Street and Batman Crescent area. Upon Soapies death, his son Frank subdivided most of the remaining land into 7 large lots in Bruce Street and 12 large lots along Lalor Drive.

Abiding with Soapies wishes, a 40 unit retirement village was then built on the last of Soapies land at the end of Lalor Drive called Waratah Village. Although there is native Waratahs in remote areas of the property, it is hard to grow them by artificial planting. Soapie had planted 20 bushes all of which survived by placing a bag of potting mix under each of the plants. Four of the twenty still survives today within the retirement village. A special feature of the original village included a recycling sewer system which used the final cleansed water on a 9 hole chip and putt golf course and a driving range. The system was adopted by council and utilised all over the mountains and the old structure can still be seen today, along with some very old golf balls down the old walking track.

This cache is dedicated to Soapies land and the facility (Waratah Village) he wished to be built. You will see Waratah Village when you park your car at the end of Lalor Drive, the cache is not located in the village so there is no need to enter the property. The cache is located along the trail past the village entrance. You will need to enter the bush at some stage along the track and bash to GZ.

GZ has a cliff line so keep the kids safe, a small body will be helpful in obtaining this cache.

I do not suggest you try this at night, although, it would not be impossible to do.
