Aquí donde lo ves, el cerro Hervero es un volcán extinto hace miles de años. Cuando llegas a la cima, al oeste del vértice geodésico puedes observar un pequeño hoyo cubierto de monte bajo: es el cráter. Lo puedes cruzar, el suelo no se va a hundir, ni ya va a salir magma del interior; pero ahí está, recuerdo de cómo se formaron los enormes pedruscos de granito tan característicos de estas comarcas entre el Sistema Central y la ancha meseta castellana.
Es también, junto con su gemelo cerro del Teléfono, el punto de mayor altitud de la ciudad de Ávila, 1218 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Desde aquí se tienen unas vistas magníficas: al oeste, la ciudad de Ávila con sus murallas y su catedral; al norte, los barrios y polígonos situados en las llamadas Hervencias; al este, el cerro del Teléfono, que mira al Campo Azálvaro; al sur, los campos y prados del río Chico hacia Tornadizos y la carretera de Las Navas del Marqués.
En la cima del cerro Hervero se encuentran dos de los repetidores de televisión de Ávila (el otro lo verás mirando al oeste en el camino hacia La Colilla) y un depósito de agua potable.

Cerro Hervero is a volcano extinct thousands of years ago. When you reach the top, to the west of the geodesic vertex you can see a small hole covered in scrubland: it's the crater. You can cross it, the ground isn't going to sink, nor is magma going to come out of the interior. But there is the memory of how the enormous granite stones were formed, so characteristic of these regions between the Central System and the Inner Plateau.
It's the highest point of Ávila city, 1218 masl. From here you have great views: to the West, Ávila city with its walls and its cathedral; to the North, the neighborhoods and polygons located in Las Hervencias; to the East, the twin Cerro del Telephone, which looks at Campo Azálvaro; to the South, the fields and meadows of the Chico river towards Tornadizos and Las Navas del Marqués way.
At the top of Cerro Hervero are two of Ávila's TV repeaters (the other you will see looking West on the way to La Colilla) and a drinking water tank.
