Geocache Description:

Yorkshire has been home to more confectionery companies over the years than any other region of Britain. In fact, the oldest sweet shop in England, at Pateley Bridge, is in the Guinness Book of Records!

York is home to many world-famous confectionery products. Halifax too has played a big part in putting Yorkshire on the sweetie map.

John Mackintosh opened a shop in Halifax in 1890 and created a new sweet mixing hard toffee with runny caramel.
Halifax was soon home to the world's first toffee factory.

Incidentally, one popular brand of childrens' sweets were accidentally invented in Horsforth by Brian Boffey, who was actually trying to create powdered jelly at the time. What a fantastic mistake!
