Geocache Description:

The first ever bottle bank in the UK was launched in Barnsley, South Yorkshire on 24 August 1977.  Just 6 months later, 500 tonnes of glass had been collected nationwide.  Nowadays, recycling glass is the norm and some areas are lucky enough to have councils who collect it kerbside.

Glass can be melted down to make new glass products over and over again - it is 100 % endlessly recyclable.  Making new glass from recycled glass reduces CO2 emissions and energy use.

Each UK family uses an average of 500 glass bottles and jars annually.  Glass that is thrown away and ends up in landfills will never decompose!

PLEASE RECYCLE AND RE-USE!
