This is opposite a popular common particularly for sports such as football, rugby or cricket. A great social location to visit with a playground for small children to let off steam.
In the 1960s this area had been earmarked for large scale development, something the local community was opposed. This lead to the formation of "Lindfield Preservation Society" who ultimately manged to reduce the development to something more in keeping with the village character. The "Welkin" estate just behind this cache is the result.
