Nearby is the boundary for the Black Elk Wilderness.
This area was named for Black Elk, a un Oglala Laktoa holy man. Today the Black Elk Wilderness consists of 13,426 acres. You can explore massive granite formations and smell Ponderosa Pines on you way to GZ. Hiking trails in the Wilderness are the Willow Creek Loop, Iron Creek #15, Grizzly Bear Creek and the Blackberry Trail.
Nice pull off area of Highway 16A near the Pigtail bridges. Get out and enjoy the granite. This can be a muggle zone. Practice geo-stealth and replace hide as you found it. FYI : . There is no road maintenance here in the winter. This road is closed in winter to vehicles. (Thanks Z’sMom.)
