Geocache Description:

Penshaw Picnic Meet

When :- Monday 27th August 2018 --- 12.00 midday -13.30pm

Where:- Right at the top of the hill, next to this well known landmark. We’re usually next to the white painted Trig point.

We missed putting a meet on here last year and the amount of folk that asked if it was happening was unreal. So following the success of our meets over the last few years at Penshaw, we thought we'd revive it and do it again this year. So come and join us for a picnic at the top of the hill next to the monument.

We'll start at 12.00 midday and be there till 13.30, but I'm sure there'll be folk arriving before that, and staying a bit later. Bring your own food and drink. Well behaved dogs are very welcome also.

It's an easy climb but unfortunately not accessible to wheelchairs.

The monument and hill is National Trust Property and access is free to all, but we do remind you there is a donation box at the gate before you climb the hill or when you descend. Looking after grounds and a monument this big costs accordingly.

If you wish to take a tour of the top of the monument you can just usually turn up and they'll give you a slot, or you can book it in advance. The information can be found on the National Trust website on how to book a tour.

We hope to see you there, and if it looks like rain, remember to bring waterproofs just in case, this is Britain after all!

Nearby Caches
If you haven't cached much round these parts, then the place is well stocked with caches for you to grab, before or after the event. There's a new virtual right at the monument GC7B9VA right where we are having the picnic for you to grab if you haven't already, plus there's a multi cache GC5HWAT which starts at the bottom of the hill. Around the hill in the nearby surrounding area such as Herrington Country Park there are at least two dozen other caches to keep you busy if you haven't cached here before.
