Geocache Description:

Sheep Mountain Wilderness

Located at the fork of the Pacific Crest Trail and Boy Scouts Trail (Dawson Saddle Trail) on the edge of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness boundary is a rest stop with some amazing views. Approaching from the trail from Baden-Powell is a 6-1/2 mile trek along the PCT From the west, also 6-1/2 mile from the Mt. Islip Saddle. GZ is your jump off point at about 8,850 foot elevation to other peaks around the area with the majority of elevation gain behind you. This is my favorite "base camp" to explore in every direction, Mt. Islip, Throop Peak, Mt. Hawkins (Copter Ridge), Mt. Burnham and Mt. Baden-Powell.

Access can be limited throughout the year with closure of Highway 2 due to snow. Parking anywhere along Highway or the trailhead require an adventure pass. (Fee/Non-Fee Sites) You can pick up a $5 day pass or a $30 year pass at the gas station in Wrightwood or at the visitor center/ranger station at Grassy Hollow. Parking at the visitor center is free. The hide is not difficult of a find. Please place back better then when found.
