Trafalgar Square Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

Trafalgar Road when first built was actually Trafalgar Square.  This area of Twickenham was still part of Hounslow Heath until 1837 when Mr William Horsley bought and developed it into a small estate of 13 semi-detached houses.  It was the first of many such estates in the area.

The survey map of 1845 by Thomas Warren shows the long square with 13 pairs of semi-detached houses on two sides, an oval pond and a green in the middle. There was no piped water supply, but wells were provided near the kitchen doors. At this time none of the houses were occupied, probably as the rental price of £22 per year was too expensive, however by 1855 with a reduced rental of £16 per year all the properties were occupied.

Trafalgar Square became Trafalgar Road in 1882 when the pond and green area was removed and replaced with a road through the middle.  The properties were compensated by having longer front gardens.

Trafalagar Road is now a conservation area. More information can be found here https://www.richmond.gov.uk/media/4089/ca_trafalgar_road1.pdf
