Batu Ferringhi Aquaduct (2) - scenic view Traditional Cache
rzinger: The aqueduct has been closed since COVID and unfortunately it seems as if there are not plans to reopen it anytime soon. I will archive these 7 caches along the path. If it does reopen, we can set up some new geocaches along this beautiful path.

Note: The Aquaduct is closed due to COVID. They have not updated as to when it may reopen. It is one of the most beautiful places to walk in Penang. So hopefully soon! The Batu Ferringhi Aquaduct is another piece of beautiful Penang architecture and can be found in the forest near Batu Ferringhi. Most tourists come to Batu Ferringhi for the beach, restaurants or night market. Few know there's some heritage to visit here too. The Batu Ferringhi aqueduct was opened on 16th July 1929 by Sir Hugh Clifford, Governor of the Straits Settlements. An appreciation of Penang's history is integral to understanding the importance of heritage. For example, one of the reasons why early mariners stopped at Penang was to replenish their supplies of fresh water. Batu Ferringhi (Foreigners Rock) with its waterfall once visible from the sea was one such source for sailing ships to obtain water before and after crossing the Indian Ocean. This 100 year old construction is in a remarkably excellent state. The PBA (Penang water company) takes excellent care of the property. The dam is still in active duty. The aquaduct is an excellent walk/run any time of the day. It is nicely shaded and hence, does not get as hot. It's not difficult and it is very good to do with children (from 6 years on). Early in the morning and in the later afternoon you will find local hikers and joggers walking/jogging this trail up and down. The 1st 1/2 km is steep and then it is mostly flat. It is about a 10km loop if you go all the way to the end. There is a "guard" at the street entrance to the aqueduct. There is a book just outside the guardhouse, please sign in that you are going up for a walk. This geocache is hidden at the 1st scenic overlook along the aqueduct path. Please take extra time to completely re-hide the cache otherwise the monkeys will take it away.
