To access this cache, park in our main lot by Long Pond beach. Make a day of it by taking a swim after you find the three caches found near Long Pond.
This cache is at one of the high points along the winding Water Tower trail, which also happens to be part of our Orienteering course, as indicated by the orange and white marker nearby. Orienteering uses a detailed map and compass to guide you along a route through the park. If you are interested in this more low tech form of navigation that brings you off-trail in the park, ask staff at the Welcome Center for a copy of our beginner’s orienteering map.
This cache has been placed as part of the New York State Saratoga/Capital District Regional Geocache Challenge. There are 72 geocaches hidden within 18 state parks and historic sites in this park region, and geocachers finding 45 or more will be eligible to receive a 2018 Schodack Island State Park commemorative and trackable geocoin. If you are interested in taking the challenge, you can pick up a geocache passport at any of the participating parks and sites or download it at www.nysparks.com
