WWFM – World Wide Flash Mobs – [Please check out the Flash Mob Website] A fun and friendly way to promote geocaching around the world.
Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events spanning the globe, gathering at the same time.
Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher podcast came up with the WWFM idea in 2007 after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event: all the cool aspects of a geocaching event, crammed into 15 minutes of excitement. An added dimension is represented by the letters "WW" - World Wide - these events occur across the planet on the same day at (mostly) the same time! These caching events are intended to bring geocachers together in a creative way, as well as introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
A flash mob is "a group of people who organize on the Internet and then quickly assemble in a public place, do something bizarre, and disperse.
So we will meet on Saturday June 9th at 12noon at the Logan Hyperdome, and our FUN ACTIVITY will be to find one of the entrances to the Hyperdome (there are many of them). Bring your own BANANA and hold it to your ear and talk you way towards the FOOD COURT!
On the day of the Event:
- Get there early enough to find a car park. Bring your own banana (preferably not an over-ripe one!).
- Act like a muggle before the event starts (don't congregate with other geocachers). Maybe go window-shopping.
- At exactly 12noon, enter the shopping centre from the entry point of your choice, holding the banana to an ear and start talking to an imaginary friend while you make your way to the Food Court.
- Enjoy the fun spirit of the WWFM We will take a Group Photo with Bananas to the ear when we all meet together.
- At the end of the event, leave without a trace. DISPERSE QUICKLY AND QUIETLY.
- Plan to meet up with other geocachers later to spend a fun day caching!
There are also plenty of great eating places near GZ Maybe you can origanise a small group get together over a lunch to swap some stories.
