Completed in 1897, this brick barn complex was part of a farming operation that included orchards and raising livestock with a year-round staff. Today, it is used for park maintenance and is off-limits to visitors.
In the 1910s, Mr. Mills’ greatest focus was his dairy operation. He purchased prize-winning Jersey cows - a breed known for the high butterfat content its milk. One was Sociable Sybil that won many awards on the national circuit, including 18 ribbons including Grand Champion. A fire in 1918 destroyed much of the dairy barn, with a great loss to property and livestock. It was rebuilt by Ogden Mills and these barns can be seen today.
