Geocache Description:

The bridge across 'Parsley Glen' As early as 1906, Vaucluse Council was considering the benefits of installing a footbridge across 'The Parsley Glen' to improve pedestrian access between the two shores of the Bay. A cable suspension bridge was constructed during 1910 at a cost of £500. The work was carried out using Council labour and the bridge built to the design of Edwin Sautelle, then Town Clerk and Engineer of Vaucluse. Sautelle was later an Alderman of the Council, serving as Mayor twice. His greatest legacy to Vaucluse, however, is found in the graceful lines of the Parsley Bay Bridge - the distinguishing feature of the Bay and a focal point of the Reserve.

If you look out at this point you can also see one of the areas navigational markers

The first group (ca 1857) comprises a stone obelisk on Laings (Green Point) and another on the southern shore of Parsley Bay (No. 65 Fitzwilliam Road) which when lined up give a bearing on the South Reef, 300 m. west of Inner South Head.

Prepared by Woollahra Library Local History Centre

The Bridge was the creation of Edwin Sautelie, the then Council Clerk and Engineer of the Vaucluse Municipal Council and built in 1910 to improve access to the ferry wharf on Point Seymour. Legend has it that a peg was placed at a point on the southern side and instruction given that the bridge was to be built to the right of the peg. However, in facing the wrong way around, the instruction was misconstrued and the bridge placed too far to the west requiring the acquisition of property and leaving a 'kick' in the approach to it.
