How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This cache forms part of the Helderberg Grapes GeoArt series. The cache is NOT at the coordinates listed. It is a mystery cache, which means you have to find out some information to help you determine where the true co-ordinates are. Below is a question that you have to correctly answer. You can then use the coordinates next to the correct answer to “update coordinates” on the cache page. This will lead you to the final destination cache. Once you have found the cache and logged it, the smileys will appear to form the geo-art of grapes on your map. Question: The production of wine from grapes started as early as 5000 BC – True or False? Answer 1: True - then coordinates are S 34° 1.850, E 018° 50.045 Answer 2: False - then coordinates are S 34° 1.795, E 018° 52.456 If your answer gives coordinates that look wrong, then they probably are, as the caches are located along a walking trail, and not on a mountain peak! This series of caches are placed on the green, red and yellow sections of the Helderbergplaas Hiking Trail. The 6km circular route is family friendly and should take around 3 hours to complete. You will start out in the forest and then circle the vineyards to return back to the forest. The hiking trails are open 7 days a week from 08:00 – 18:00. Compulsory hiking permits are available from the kiosk at a cost of R35 for Adults and R25 for Children and Pensioners. You will also get a map of the hiking trails with your permit. The kiosk stocks refreshments to sustain you if you didn't bring anything.
