A Cache of Ice and Fire #24 - Ser Gregor Clegane.
One of a series of caches that will take you on an adventure into the Gollans Stream area between Wainuiomata and Eastbourne. The series is designed to be accessed via either Rata Ridge Track (from the end of Lees Grove in Wainuiomata) or from the Main Ridge Track above Eastbourne. These caches are based on established Bait Lines through the reserve area. Please respect the hard work of the volunteers who work in this area - do not touch, alter, or damage any of the pest control traps. None of the caches are located near a trap - there is no need for you to come into contact with them. GPS reception in this area can be patchy - almost all of these caches are therefore hidden directly on or beside the Bait Line.
This series is named after some of the many characters from the A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels (later adapted into the successful television show "Game of Thrones"). This particular cache celebrates Ser Gregor Clegane.
Called the Mountain that Rides. A knight of the Westerlands.
Gregor had a huge temper: when he was younger, he shoved his brother, Sandor, into a flaming brazier, permanently disfiguring him, for playing with one of his toys. Four years later, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen made him a knight. He was seventeen at the start of Robert's Rebellion and took part in the sack of King's Landing, during which he raped and killed Elia Targaryen and smashed the head of her baby, Aegon, into a wall. He also fought in Greyjoy's rebellion. He has been married twice, with both wives dying under mysterious circumstances, just as his sister and father did.
Ser Gregor was one of the finalists in the Hand's tourney, but fell to Ser Loras Tyrell, who rode a mare in heat to distract Gregor's stallion. The furious Gregor nearly killed Loras until Sandor intervened.
