Short Description
The cache is located at the historic Southern Railway Company depot in Erlanger, KY. It replaces a similar hide placed at this location in 2010 by a geocacher named altiora, and includes an updated version of the narrative of the original cache. In the words of the previous CO, “This is hopefully an interesting place for Erlanger history buffs, as well as geocachers with an interest in railroading.” The cache should be a fairly easy park and grab, and is available everyday during daylight hours.
Long Description
This historic structure was built in 1877 by the Southern Railway Company, and is now the home of the Erlanger Historical Society museum. The depot is the last remaining wooden structure of its kind from Cincinnati to Chattanooga, and distinguishes the city of Erlanger, KY. The museum is dedicated to the railroads, with a collection of memorabilia and artifacts from days gone by.
Also enjoy the adjacent Railroad Park, which contains a replica train made by the Amish for children to play upon. There is also a shelter for picnics, and a gazebo where many weddings occur in Erlanger.
The Erlanger Historical Society/Museum is open March 21st through November 30th ; Tuesdays and Thursdays from Noon until 3PM, and Saturdays from 12PM until 5PM. The park is open everyday during daylight hours.
