Welcome to the Pieces of 8 Challenge!
Some of the world’s most famous pirates have visited the North Country and left behind a large treasure chest of their richest valuables. Each of the notorious pirates then left behind a separate cache with a hint for you to find the motherload. There are 8 caches for each of the 8 pirates, plus the motherload. The pirates left a part of the coordinates for the motherload in each of their caches. They don’t need to be found in order, but they all need to be found to get the final coordinates for the motherload.
Grace O’Malley was born in 1530 in Ireland, the daughter of a powerful lord in County Mayo. With her first husband, who was ambushed and killed while out hunting, she had 3 children. After her husband’s death, she returned to her own lands, where she reportedly took a shipwrecked lover, who was later killed by a rival clan, the MacMahons. Grace sought revenge on the MacMahon’s, attacking their castle at Doona and killing her lover’s killers. In the meantime, Grace remarried, only to divorce him a year later, took control of his castle, and still managed to keep is loyalty. Grace’s power increased throughout the years, eventually gaining so much power it caught the attention of Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Grace met in 1593, with Grace protesting the Queen for the return of her lands and the freedom of her sons, who were arrested by the governor, Richard Bingham. Her sons were freed, but Elizabeth did nothing to stop Burke. Grace realized her meeting with the Queen was useless and she went back to supporting the Irish in the Nine Years War. Grace died in 1603 and is a well-know figure in Irish folklore.
