Geocache Description:

Harry Blackstone, Sr. is ranked #7 on the list of The Greatest Famous Magicians

  • Harry Bouton Blackstone (born Henry Boughton; September 27, 1885– November 16, 1965) was a famed stage magician and illusionist of the 20th century. Blackstone was born Harry Bouton in Chicago, Illinois, he began his career as a magician in his teens and was popular through World War II as a USO entertainer.  He was often billed as The Great Blackstone. His son Harry Blackstone Jr. also became a famous magician. Blackstone Sr. was aided by his younger brother (2 years younger) Pete Bouton who was the stage manager in all his shows.  Blackstone Sr. was married three times. Blackstone Jr. was his son by his second wife.

You are following the trail of a magical Bomag. This creature has four legs, two tusks, a trunk and three tongues. Each tongue is a different color; yellow, white and blue. When the Bomag get excited, it barfs up a container with SWAG (which is worth checking out).

You are standing at a post next to a magic bean field. You will see that the Bomag licked the post with its’ white tongue, leaving a while tongue lick mark upon the post. Walk south from the post for 420 feet (keeping the trees on your left and the magic bean field on your right). You will find yourself in the forest on a trail. Look to your left and you will see the remains of the alien spacecraft that the Bomag used to travel here. When you see the first white tongue lick mark, venture off the trail to your right for about 90 feet (tree to the right of the dead stump). You may find where the Bomag barfed up a container of SWAG. After investigating and trading SWAG, wipe your hands and return to the trail.

Continue south on the trail watching for the white tongue marks on the trees as you go. Count six white tongue marked trees (about 500 feet). At this point the Bomag’s tongue was sore and he switched to licking with his blue tongue. Look to you right and follow the blue tongue marks.

At the second blue tongue marked tree (180 feet), you will find a large mound of Bomag poop (probably hardened to rock by the time you get there). The Bomag swallowed a secret code that you will need at the end of your journey and you might find it among the Bomag’s poop. Be brave! Once you find the code, retrace your steps to the point where the Bomag switched to its’ yellow tongue. Turn right at the first yellow tongue lick mark and head west on the trail.

Continue for 535 feet along the trail and you will see a clump of seven trees together on the left. Search around these trees for another stash of Bomag barf (SWAG alert). Investigate and trade!

Continue from this spot following the Bomag’s yellow tongue marks, avoiding the Bomag poop along the way. Keep the magic bean field on your right as you pass it by. Just before you reach the end of the magic bean field, the Bomag licked another clump of seven trees. Look for more Bomag barf (.16 from the last Bomag barf). SWAG alert – investigate and trade!

Continue down the trail another 165 feet until you reach the spot where the Bomag took a rest on a bench. This may be a good time for you to sit and take a break also! You will now see another magic bean field on your left and the valley of enchantment on your right. Keep following the yellow tongue licks across the magical bean field and re-enter the forest. Here you will see a trail marker with a picture of the Bomag’s cousin (.14 miles from the bench).

Soon after leaving the trail marker, look to your left and you will see the remains of the house of sticks which once belonged to the second of the three little pigs. Unfortunately for the second little pig, the Bomag is very fond of pork.

90 feet from the trail marker, you will find a spot where a different Bomag joined the trail. Stay on the trail with the yellow Bomag tongue licks.

Continue down the trail and count the yellow tongue-licked trees. When you come to yellow tongue licks 9 & 10, located on trees across the trail from one another - at this point, the Bomag’s pork dinner began to disagree with him. Look for more Bomag barf just beyond this point on the left. SWAG alert – investigate and trade!

Continue along the trail until you see a spot where the Bomag switches to his blue tongue. You will see a trail marker post with the Bomag’s cousin pictured on it. Venture left up the trail for 110 feet where you will find a Bomag campsite. Follow the small trail to the right and up the hill to a clump of seven trees where the Bomag vomited up the last of his SWAG. Do you have the secret code that you need? Use this code to unlock the container so that you that you can investigate and sign the log.

Retrace your steps to the cousin’s post and turn left to find your way back to your parking spot.
