Sanquhar Community Wind Farm
The wind farm consists of 9 turbines and generates up to 32.4MW of clean, green and locally sourced energy which is enough to power around 30,000 homes, roughly the same size as Dumfries. The site is located on Black Hill approximately 7km southwest of Sanquhar and 5km southwest of Kirkconnell and was formally an open cast mining site.
Access to the wind farm is through Drambuie Farm (waypoints given) which is just under 3 miles from the cache. The cache is located near turbine T01 which is the first one that you'll reach along the track road. Depending on gates it may be possible to drive so far up the track road, if not then you'll need to park at the farm and hike. On a clear day the cache area offers views of Glasgow, Arran and even Cumbria.
The cache was placed on 3rd July 2018 during the official opening of the wind farm. Further information about the wind farm can be found at http://www.communitywindpower.co.uk/projects/sanquhar/15.htm
Please do not hike to this cache during winter months or in bad weather as there is no visitor centre or any form of adequate shelter. Please be respectful to the environment as the area is used for open grazing for cattle and other areas of the wind farm is home to roosting oystercatchers, black grouse and other windlife.
