Geocache Description:

****DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY****Permission for cache granted by Pastor Bill John ****

Congratulations to KWrightVA for FTF!!

This cache is located on the grounds of Providence United Methodist Church.  Please be respectful when parking lot is full or when other activities take place. There are often church meetings, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and community activities taking place at the church. This was the first church that welcomed me to New Kent in 2000 and hosted my Girl Scout Troop 2013-2015.

The Providence church family has been around for centuries – there are records from 1785 of Methodist leaders preaching at Chickahominy Church, as it was once known.  That church was followed by a Log Chapel, which sat across New Kent Highway from our present building. Later, a series of buildings were erected on the corner of New Kent Highway and Old Roxbury Road, culminating in the 1938 construction of our present sanctuary.

Providence was originally part of the Williamsburg Circuit, where many congregations were served by a single, traveling preacher. In 1985, Providence United Methodist Church became a station church, which means it is one church with one preacher.

The 1938 building has been expanded a few times since, with the Fellowship Hall section added in the 1990s. Most recently, in 2009, the education building was erected.  (Content from Church Website)

This cache can be found by approaching coordinates, facing the yellow sliding board.  You then turn 80 degrees to your left and walk past the pine tree.  Cross two logs at a 90 degree angle and walk appoximately 25 feet.  You will immediately notice some unexpected art in nature!  The staff here believes this is Christmas artwork.  You can look at it like an ink blot and determine for yourself what the artwork appears to be in your eyes!
