This cache commemorates the first Deacon, Stephen, who was martyred as the result of lies told by those jealous of his piety. He was one of seven deacons whom the Apostles appointed to distribute food and perform works of charity for the neediest members of the early Church. His dies natales (day of his death) and feast day is September 26th.
The cache is located close to “Deacon House” where seminarians in their last year of preparation at Saint John’s Seminary used to reside. Saint John’s Seminary is the oldest (1884) Seminary in Massachusetts, where more than 3,000 men have been prepared for ordination to the Priesthood. Seminarians study here for six years (after college) before being ordained as Priests. Placed with permission.
