Welcome to Mt Ellie at 2,455 feet.
The mountain looms high when viewed from the Ellie Lane TH and the peak has an unobstructed 360 degree view of the area. To get there, start either from Ellie Lane TH or the main Iron Mountain TH. Turn off the trail at the listed Trail Coordinates, zig-zag a little and hike over the rock outcropping to find a very nicely maintained use trail. Hiking poles recommended - the trail goes straight up (and down) in a spot for maybe 30-40 ft and you'll also encounter a bit of rock scrambling just before the peak, but nothing serious. Once on the peak you'll have to do a little rock-hopping to get to the cache (ammo can).
A little note here: About 3/4 of the way up you'll find a tree trimmer tool. May I suggest that you do NOT play "Finders-Keepers" and leave it there. Whoever maintains this trail probably left it there for future use.
