Geocache Description:

The first in a series for visiting schools to get their first taste of geocaching - to accompany the many and varied caches already hidden around this lovely village.

THis cache is just outside the old front entrance to Burwell House - orignally built by Salisbury Dunn in 1786 and then extended by his son in law - Edward Ball MP in 1822.

Edward Ball's family are well represented around the village and beyond, with gravestones in the main churchyard, graffiti in the lead on the church roof and a village school originally built by his daughter Sarah.  A local MP, magistrate and factory owner, Edward and his family lived here at various times during the 18th and early 19th century, and his photograph (from the house of commons) hangs above the fireplace.

Further beyond, and in a long and complex story involving shipwrecks, South Africa's best selling chutney - Mrs H S Balls relish - also has its distant roots in this sleepy village!

The cache is a small tube - tweezers may be required to extract the log. PLease note - you don't need to go inside the grounds of the house in order to find this hide.
